Go Big with the BODathon

In commemoration of my 60th birthday I’m training myself over the next 60-90 days for a BODathon. My very own two-and-a-half-hour marathon string of workouts on Beachbody On Demand and I’m inviting anyone who wants to get healthy and fit in 2015 to join me.

The BODathon is a fitness event concocted by Beachbody CEO Carl Daikeler to motivate him to get into peak shape using Beachbody On Demand workouts and train for 60-90 days with the goal to complete three difficult Beachbody workouts, back to back. Four, actually, but the last one is a cool down, so we’re not counting it as a “workout”.

I always like to set a goal for my training. So far this year I’ve stayed in decent shape doing rounds of P90X3, P90, 21-Day Fix and Body Beast. I’ve also stayed consistent eating clean, drinking my Shakeology and doing a 3-Day Refresh each month.I’m training for my own special event, to see if I can do it – a 60 and 90 Day BODathon – to commemorate the milestone of turning 60 and to finish out 2015 strong.

The back-to-back workouts are no picnic all by themselves. For the first BODathon on November 28th they’re P90X’s Core Synergistics, Body Beast’s Total Body, and 21 Day Fix EXTREME’s Plyo Fix Extreme. INSANITY: THE ASYLUM Relief is the cool down. Stacking these workouts one after another is a brutal test.

For the second BODathon on December 31st they’re will be two new surprise workouts introduced to replace Body Beast’s Total Body, and 21 Day Fix EXTREME’s Plyo Fix Extreme.

As usual, I’m asking my friends to join in, and and any of their friends or family as well. I’ve created a private Facebook group, which you can find here.

To prepare for the event, There is a two-month training program designed for me (and you!) bt Steve Edwards (a Beachbody Fitness and Nutrition Adviser) that begins Thursday, October 1st. We will be posting in the Facebook group daily. There, feel free to ask questions, seek modifications (yes, there will be modifiers for beginners and intermediate fitness levels), or simply just complain about how hard it is. Come on in and you’re guaranteed to get super fit, whether you end up doing the challenge or not. But you’re going to want to do it. You know you are. And this program will have you ready to send 2015 off in style.

BODathon Training

Below is the BODathon two-month training program, along with some rationale. It follows standard progression, targeted to help you reach your end goal, in two blocks, with a recovery week in between. It’s very intense. Eat well. Take your supplements.

Goal: to nail P90X Core Synergistics, Body Beast Total Body, & 21 Day Fix Extreme Plyo Fix Extreme back-to-back.

Requirements: excellent functional strength—particularly core and hip mobility, explosive power, muscular endurance, and recuperative properties.

Training targets: total body conditioning, focusing on improvements in both power and endurance, along with balance, mobility, and highly functional core strength.

Overview: 2 X 3.5 week blocks, with a recovery week in the middle and a taper at the end.

Dates: Oct 1 – Nov 28
