7 Ways to Use Shakeology in Your Daily Life

One of the beautiful things about Shakeology is how versatile it is. Because it helps you digest anything you consume along with it, there isn’t really a wrong time to have it. It can be effective pre-workout, post-workout, or any time during the day when your energy is flagging and you need a pick-me-up. Or you can make smoothies and simply replace your meals. You basically can’t go wrong.

How to Use Shakeology in Your Daily Life

  1. As a supplement meal: One of the best and most popular ways to use Shakeology is to prepare it as a healthy shake for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Shakeology formulas vary from 140-170 calories depending on the formula. This is why we give you a lot of smoothie recipes and options. Shakeology can be a component of something larger. Adding extra calorie dense ingredients like fruit, nut-butters, or milk gets you to a healthy caloric content that is both highly satisfying and nutritious.

  2. Snack: Shakeology is an incredibly nutrient-rich snack, perfect for someone that’s doing an intense workout program like P90X. Since Shakeology doesn’t have much fat, its nutrients are put to use very quickly by your body. This makes it an ideal pick-me-up snack when you’re on the go.  Shakeology will give you sustained energy because it’s providing nutrients your body needs to get things done. You can either make yourself a ½ scoop serving of Shakeology or a full scoop if you’re really famished. The key to losing weight is to eat small meals throughout the day, so if you feel like you’re getting hungry Shakeology is a good, convenient option; a Shakeology snack will keep your metabolism revved and your body burning fat.

  3. Pre-Workout Supplement: If you’re doing an intense workout program, a good way to use Shakeology is as a pre-workout snack, taken about 1 hour prior to your warm-up. Your workout will help you get the most out of Shakeology, and Shakeology will help you during the latter part of your workout, especially if your glycogen stores have been slightly depleted.

  4. Natural Energy Boost: Next time the 3 PM slump rolls around, make Shakeology; it’s better for an energy boost than a lot of energy drinks! While something like Red Bull® might give you more up-front punch, Shakeology will give you sustained energy because it’s providing nutrients your body needs to get things done, and it has a low glycemic impact, which helps keep blood sugar levels stable.

  5. Late Night Sweet Cravings: Sometimes at the end of the day you crave something sweet; this happens to the best of us. Instead of grabbing something high in sugar and low in nutrition, whip yourself up some Shakeology with your favorite recipe. This Double Chocolate Recipe is sure to knock your chocolate craving out of the park: 1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology, 1 cup chocolate almond milk, 1 ½ cup ice. True, this isn’t the most opportune time to eat for weight loss – try to keep your larger meals earlier, so you have time to burn off the calories before bed; but drinking Shakeology is better than binging on cake or brownies!

  6. Healthy Dessert: Even the most dedicated dieter needs to let loose every now and then. There are plenty of creative dessert recipes you can make with Shakeology found right here on the blog, such as pies, peanut butter cups and easy chocolate mousse in the ‘Recipes’ category. The best part is all of the desserts have 70+ healthy ingredients in them. See, you can have your cake and eat it too!

  7. Post-Workout Supplement: When it comes to a serious workout, you can drink Shakeology post-workout is because your body is in a state of depletion. Here are several reasons why Shakeology is a good post-workout supplement:

Calories: Many people make the mistake of eating too many calories afterward. The general range is 100 to 250 calories, post-workout. At 140 to 170 calories, Shakeology fills this requirement perfectly.

Protein: Protein is critical after a tough workout because it works to repair your muscles. With 15 to 18 grams of quality protein in each serving, Shakeology works great as a muscle building tool.

Replenish Electrolytes: The magnesium, sodium, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes in Shakeology will boost your electrolytes.

Can Shakeology substitute for Beachbody Performance Recover?

It’s not an exact swap, but you could do a lot worse.

Recover is a great post-workout supplement designed to help your muscles recover and repair after an intense workout. Consuming Recover will not lead to weight gain, and is actually recommended for people trying to lose weight.

The thing about the calories in Recover is that, yes, they are calories, but they’re very targeted. You’re consuming them at the ideal time for them to go to do exactly what you want them to do, which is breakdown into amino acids and facilitate muscle repair. So while they technically add calories to your diet, they’re used well and therefore shouldn’t cause fat gain.

Shakeology’s macronutrient ratio splits the difference among sports drink, protein shake, and recovery drink, but it can substitute for all of them in any given situation because it also has an excellent micronutrient profile. Most people are focused only on macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbs), but they’re only part of your nutritional equation. Micronutrients are things like phytonutrients, adaptogens, and other scientific-sounding stuff. While we refer to these as “micro,” nutritionally, they are anything but small. Many of them are absolutely essential for a healthy life. Shakeology speeds these micronutrients into your system, which enables you to perform better.

Why don’t we hear more about the importance of micronutrients?

Not to dwell too much on conspiracy theories, but “big food,” as we call the American food industry, doesn’t want us focusing on micronutrients because they’ve been destroyed in most of the foods we eat. Things like food processing and pasteurization kill most of the micronutrients in food. These processed foods are then sprinkled with what have been lobbied to be “important” ingredients, which in reality only provide enough nutrition for surviving, as opposed to thriving. As you can observe by watching society grow larger, this is leading to all sorts of problems.

In nature, food doesn’t come this way. It has a balance of nutrients that help sustain life. It’s possible for food scientists to recreate this balance in processed foods, but this is expensive. Essentially, if it doesn’t fit the numbers, shareholders want to see it doesn’t happen. So they make cheap food and keep us in the dark about nutrition. This is exactly why we’re in the predicament we’re in today (with obesity), because we can make calorie-rich but nutrient-poor food cheaper than we can produce natural food.

This is why Shakeology is designed the way it is. There is no one food in nature that has all the micronutrients we need to fill the nutritional gaps in our diets that’s why we need to eat a variety of foods. But most of us don’t do that. So at its core, this is what Shakeology is doing filling in our nutritional gaps.

Greg H. Power 90® Grad lost 56 pounds in 90 days

I can’t say enough about Shakeology. I felt energized every day and it helped regulate my digestion. The biggest benefit of all was my weight loss and the improved results of my cholesterol and sugar levels. For the first time in 10+ years I don’t need medication for health issues. I owe it all to Beachbody and Shakeology!” -Greg H.

Meet Joshua B.! He participated in The Beachbody Challenge and won the $500 Daily Prize for November 3rd!

a4c2067f-4053-46a5-b163-f6436478139eJoshua tells us that by age 27, he hit his all time low and was in a downward spiral. Weighing in at over 260 lbs., he was depressed, hated the person he saw in the mirror, and projected his anger and frustration onto everyone—including his wife and children. Finally, one day he realized that if he didn’t make a drastic change, his life and family were going to fall apart. So he turned to P90X® and Shakeology®—hoping, praying, pleading that it was the real deal. And thankfully, it was.

Every morning Joshua rose at the crack of dawn, “Pushed Play”, and worked out with Tony and the crew. On the days he lacked self-motivation and struggled to get out of bed, he’d say to himself, “If I don’t get up and do this workout, my Challenge Group is NEVER going to let me live this down.” Today, Joshua is so incredibly grateful for his Group’s accountability and inspiration, and never once has he regretted a workout.

While P90X kicked his butt into shape, drinking Shakeology daily was the real game changer for Joshua. Before, everything he ate came through a drive thru window, supersized everything he possibly could, and his work desk was stockpiled with junk. Now, he drinks a Shakeology everyday for lunch and spends a fraction of the money that he did on fast food. His skin is healthier, he has tons more energy, and feels a million times better.

So far, Joshua has dropped 80 pounds, inspired his wife to workout with him daily. He did it, and truly believes that anyone can, too.”
